Turning Dreams into Reality: Celebrating Our “Success Story” Winner
At IAP Career College, nothing inspires us more than seeing our students turn their ambitions into reality. This summer, we invited our community to share their “Success Stories”: real-life accounts of how their courses have transformed careers, opened doors, or built confidence.
The response was incredible. We heard from hundreds of current students and graduates who had launched new businesses, landed dream jobs, or found the courage to take the next step in their professional journey. Every story reminded us why lifelong learning matters.
To make things even more exciting, everyone who entered received $100 off their next course, and those who included a photo were entered into a draw for a $250 Amazon Gift Card. After reading every inspiring entry, we drew one name at random…
Meet Our Winner: Cindy Romero of Skip Thomas Adventures
“We are dreamers,” writes Cindy Romero, “and my business is Skip Thomas Adventures. My husband is the illustrator, and I am the author of our children’s books. We have four picture books published so far with a fifth in the works.”
While the books were reaching readers, Cindy wanted to overcome one big hurdle: getting into major chain bookstores. She already had the high-quality hardcovers, but her independent publisher’s distribution model limited her options.
That’s when Cindy turned to IAP Career College, enrolling in our Book Editor and Book Publisher courses.
“Though I am self-published with an independent publisher who gives me free rein to market and sell my books, I found it constraining in some ways that I had no control over… This is what led me to take the Book Editor and Book Publisher courses from IAP Career College. Learning the ins and outs of this industry has helped me save time and money by having the freedom to make my own decisions. I can handle the legalities of my work myself. Having these certificates, in addition to my writing degrees, helps independent bookstores take me more seriously too.”
One of Cindy’s proudest moments?
“I cannot describe the feeling of seeing that delivery truck pull up to our house with pallets of books from the printer. It brings tears to our eyes every time. We wait almost a year from start to finish for one of our creations to be in our hands. Knowing we did this—just the two of us—feels incredible.”
Cindy’s path wasn’t quick. It took five years to find the right publisher, someone who “saw something in us that the others did not.” Looking back, she says that if she had discovered IAP’s courses earlier, “who knows how much farther ahead our business would be today.” Still, she has “no complaints or regrets” and is now working toward becoming her own publisher.
